ADVISORY BOARD
Chad Gifford was recently
Chairman of Bank of America and formerly Chairman, Chief Executive
Officer, and Director of Fleet Boston Financial Corporation, the
seventh-largest bank holding company in the United States. Mr.
Gifford has worked with FleetBoston since 1966 in their London
and Boston offices. Mr. Gifford also currently serves as a Director
of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Director of
NSTAR Corporation and Chairman of the Boston Plan for Excellence
in the Public Schools. He was the Founding Chairman of The United
Way of Massachusetts Bay’s
“Success By 6” initiative and serves on the Boards
of non-profit organizations including Northeastern University,
Boston Symphony Orchestra, WGBH Public Broadcasting, Junior Achievement,
the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Greater Boston Chamber
of Commerce. Mr. Gifford earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Princeton University.
Larry Horowitz, M.D. is
President and Managing General Partner of Selby Lane Enterprises;
a corporation that is comprised of an Investment Banking/Consulting
division as well as an Entertainment division that produces movies
for television and plays for Broadway. Dr. Horowitz also serves
on the Board of Trustees of the Scripps Research Institute and
is a member of the Board of Visitors at the Sanford Institute of
Duke University. Previously, Dr. Horowitz has served as a member
of the National Advisory Committee on The Food and Drug Administration,
Chairman of its subcommittee on Prescription Drugs, Staff Director
of the United States Senate subcommittee on Health and Scientific
Research, and Chief of Staff for Senator Edward M. Kennedy. He
is the author of “Taking Charge of Your Medical Fate” (Random
House).
Paul J. Orfalea is the Founder and former
Chief Executive Officer of Kinko's, Inc., the industry leading
copy chain, with over 1,200 locations. Throughout his career, Mr.
Orfalea has been involved in a wide range of investments from small
businesses to entire chains, in industries such as direct mail,
fundraising, coffee shops and asset management. Mr. Orfalea is
on the University California at Santa Barbara Foundation Board
of Trustees, KCET TV Resource and Development Committee of the
Board of Directors, Espresso Royale, and DataProse. California
Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo established the
Orfalea College of Business in 2001. Mr. Orfalea holds a BS degree
from the University of Southern California.
Leonard Silverstein is
the co-founder of Silverstein and Mullens, now a division of Buchanan
Ingersoll, a law firm with offices in the United States and London.
Mr. Silverstein serves as Founder and Chief Editor of the Tax Management
publication series, regarded as the most authoritative private publication
in the U.S. tax field. Formerly, Mr. Silverstein served as an attorney
in the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service,
on the legal advisory staff of the Treasury Department, on the Advisory
Group of the House Ways and Means Committee, as Executive Director
of the “Filer” Commission on Private Philanthropy and
Public Needs, on President Reagan’s Committee on the Arts
and Humanities, as Chairman of President-Elect Nixon’s Task
Force on Taxes, and as a member of the Advisory Commission on Public
Diplomacy. Mr. Silverstein is a member of the Board of Directors
of the Movado Group, Inc., Chevy Chase Bank, the National Symphony
Orchestra, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the
White House Historical Association, the French-American Foundation
and the Choral Arts Society of Washington. He is also treasurer
of the Madison Council of the Library of Congress. Mr. Silverstein
received his law degree from Harvard University and his undergraduate
degree from Yale University.
Gary Wilson is Chairman of the Board and
a principal investor in Northwest Airlines Corporation, the world’s
fourth largest airline. He served as Co-Chairman beginning in 1991
and was named Chairman in 1997. Mr. Wilson is also a Director of
the Walt Disney Company where he served as Executive Vice President
and Chief Financial Officer for 5 years. Before joining Disney,
Mr. Wilson was with Marriott Corporation for 11 years as Executive
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Wilson serves on
the Board of Trustees at Duke University, the Board of Overseers
of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and The
Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.
He is a Member of the NCAA Leadership Advisory Board, Director of
Yahoo! Inc., Director of CB Richard Ellis, and a Member of the Supervisory
Board of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Mr. Wilson earned a Bachelor’s
Degree from Duke University and an MBA from the Wharton Graduate
School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania.
